Medical Technology
Setolabo was founded in 2018 as a prototype organization and formally incorporated in 2019. From an early stage, we began designing IT-driven preventive-medicine services and issued our first press release in 2020. Since 2021, we have been fully operating a “Web 2.0-style” preventive-medicine business using websites and social media. Going forward, we will launch new preventive-health services that leverage global big data and our own laboratory data through advanced AI-powered analytics.
Effort to Promote Preventive Medicine by Improving Medical Literacy
In recent years, profit-driven medical advertisements have proliferated, and I have seen many cases in clinical practice where patients come to believe incorrect information. In an age when anyone can freely access information online, the ability to distinguish accurate content—information literacy—is essential. However, without medical knowledge, judging an article’s truthfulness is not easy. We believe that by first cultivating the habit of pausing to ask, “Is this article reliable?” and the mindset of striving to evaluate information correctly, medical literacy will improve.
With this in mind, Setolabo has turned its focus to the beauty industry—where medically unsubstantiated claims abound—and has operated a medically supervised “Medical Esthetic Salon.” Starting in a familiar setting, this initiative highlights the importance of choosing accurate information. Moving forward, we plan to provide a forum where identifiable healthcare professionals themselves share evidence-based knowledge, contributing to a society in which trustworthy medical information is always within reach.
Setolabo X Medical Technology
Cancer Testing
We have launched a project that uses next-generation sequencers to detect minute quantities of cancer-related genes for ultra-early cancer detection. Currently in the development phase, we are targeting practical rollout by fiscal year 2026.
Online Telemedicine Implementation Support
At Setolabo, we provide consulting services to help medical institutions implement a LINE‐based online consultation service that even grandparents can use with ease. We also offer customer‐acquisition consulting by leveraging Python–based AI.
Mental Health Care
In April 2021, we launched an online service where healthcare professionals can share their concerns with one another. By providing a space for colleagues who could not otherwise connect during the COVID-19 pandemic, we help protect medical staff from stress and anxiety.
Awareness Through Beauty and Health
Setolabo Hair Removal Salon (Business Transferred)
We launched a medically supervised salon to highlight and mitigate misleading claims and overhyped advertisements in the beauty industry. By providing evidence-based information alongside our services, we empowered clients to make informed choices rather than relying on the common impression that “hair removal is cheap and easy.” We enforced a clear policy of risk-and-caution disclosure, introduced pay-as-you-go pricing, and required clients to sign contracts no sooner than the next day—ensuring they had ample time to consider and consent. This approach not only fostered thoughtful decision-making but also served as a practical exercise in raising medical literacy.
Rare Sugar Café chanom (Closed During the Pandemic)
Using “rare sugars,” a health-promoting ingredient developed in Kagawa Prefecture, we offered sweets that invited people to pause and think about their well-being in everyday life. All menu items were overseen by physicians and registered dietitians, delivering the experience of “delicious yet gentle on the body” while naturally introducing preventive-medicine concepts. Popular with students, parents, and health-conscious visitors alike, the café brought Setolabo’s vision of seamlessly weaving medical and wellness information into daily routines to life.
